World Down Syndrome Day 2022 Observation by T21RS Indian Chapter
In the context of the World Down Syndrome Day 2022 the T21RS Indian Chapter organized several activities adressed to individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
T21RS Indian Chapter in association with Down Syndrome Association, Kolkata organized an awareness rally at Deshapriya Park, South Kolkata. Numerous kids and adults with Down syndrome participated in the walk along with their parents and caregivers. Many clinicians and researchers also actively participated in the rally.
The walk was followed by inauguration of a Learning cum Service Providing mobile application for individuals with Down syndrome and their parents/caregivers. The application is currently under further development.
Individuals with Down syndrome also showcased their talents in a cultural program, following the inauguration.
T21RS Indian Chapter also organized an international webinar, where esteemed scientists Prof. Alberto Costa, Department of Pediatrics, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, US and Prof. Angelo Carfi, Geriatrics Department, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario, Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, Rome, Italy delivered extremely insightful lectures on Translational Research in Down syndrome and Challenges and Resources in taking care of adults with Down syndrome, respectively. The webinar was attended by 190 participants, many of them participated in the interactive Q&A session following the intriguing lectures.
Finally, the Indian Chapter, successfully organized a Health Camp for individuals with Down syndrome, in collaboration with Down Syndrome Association Kolkata and NIHMRAD, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal on 26th March 2022 at Sandeshkhali. 110 individuals with Down syndrome were inspected by clinicians and certain pathological tests were also conducted, upon the suggestion of the clinicians.
