Charles J. Epstein Award for Early-Stage Investigators
Charles J. Epstein Award for Early-Stage Investigators
Sponsored by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in collaboration with the Trisomy 21 Research Society (T21RS)
The Charles J. Epstein Award honors an exceptional early-stage independent researcher whose work shows outstanding dedication and potential to advance science in the field of Down syndrome. Dr. Epstein pioneered the gene-dosage hypothesis for Down syndrome and developed the first mouse models of trisomy 21, establishing the mechanistic foundation for understanding how extra copies of chromosome 21 genes disrupt development and cognition. This biennial award highlights the strong partnership between NDSS and T21RS in supporting the next generation of Down syndrome researchers.
