Nominations for the Chair of the Science and Society Committee

The elections for Chair(s) of the Science and Society Committee for the years 2025-2027 are approaching!

This position is officer of T21RS and will participate as member(s) in the Executive Committee functions after their election and official announcement. A description of the positions is included below. Only members can nominate, vote or run for office.

Strong leadership is critical to the vitality of the T21RS. Please consider this challenge carefully, and recruit qualified individuals for the nomination slate. We invite members to nominate great colleagues who are interested in becoming T21RS decision-makers and leaders.

The Committee for Science & Society realize that scientific results are often difficult to grasp and complex to read for the lay public. The main aim of this committee is working together with local Down syndrome associations to convey the scientific findings to Down syndrome community.

The Chair is expected to:

1. Lead the T21RS Science & Society Bulletins: The Committee works together with leading scientists and clinicians (T21RS members) to introduce scientific research and findings an understandable way to the society and families with Down syndrome. The bulletin is published several times per year to address issues raised by parents and Down syndrome associations. The chair is also expected to contribute reports and activities to the bulletin, including summaries of state-of-the-art knowledge from a scientific perspective.

2. Organize the Science & Society Symposium of the T21RS biannual International Conference to promote face-to-face interaction of the families with Down syndrome and associations with researchers.

3. Write an Annual Report and short text for the newsletters

To nominate someone else, please check first the agreement of the nominee. You can send the name and email address of the nominee to secretariatecnicat21rs@bcocongresos.com, subject line: “Nomination Chair(s) Science and Society”  Include a bio sketch of 2 pages maximum showing evidence of leadership, professional activities and scholarship and a short description of the candidate’s qualifications, to be distributed to the members.

Deadline for nominations is June 30th.

Elections will proceed through an electronic ballot in the T21RS intranet (Membership area). This election will take place from Monday 7th to Friday 21st of July 2025.
